It's the new hot topic among fans these days. Should Aaron Boone remain manager of the New York Yankees in 2021? After 2 straight seasons of 100 plus wins and being in contention of manager of the year in 2019, he still hasn't proved himself to some fans.
In 2019 he managed the Yankees to 103 wins while having a roster that had injuries galore and showed it wasn't too much for him. From the "next man up" mantra to "savages in the box" he pushed all the right buttons that season but was unable to to push enough to win it all.
It goes without saying that 2020 has been a wild and long season for only having a 60 game season. After starting 16-6 it seemed like the Yankees had returned to being that force to be reckoned with but a familiar foe stood in their way. Injuries. With the talent of Judge, Stanton, Torres, Kaynle, Britton and Paxton it was asked of Boone to summon the next man up mentality that served him so well a year before. Hoping lightning could strike twice.
Lightning did not strike twice and the Yankees went on a 5-15 tailspin that left a lot of fans wondering if they could find their rhythm in time to even make the postseason as an 8 seed. Fans wanted someone to take the fall and Boone was high on that list. As they sunk to 21-21 it was up to the 21 year old Deivi Garcia to put them back in the win column. Garcia did earn his first career win with the help from a returning Gleybor Torres to defeat the Toronto Blue Jays 7-2 to avoid being swept in a 3 game set.
Aaron Boone will have quite the battle going into October as he is not only managing to win the World Series but is also managing to keep the Yankee faithful for calling for his head and keep his job. Going into the home stretch starting with the Baltimore Orioles it's time for Boone to lead this team and show baseball that the New York Yankees are to be feared and respected by opponents once again.
